why i stopped offering websites

My weirdly rare take: you don’t need your brand and website done by the same person/agency.

On the surface, it sounds more efficientto get more things in one place. But is efficiency your #1 priority, or do you want the best possible quality and fit for your needs?

If you want the efficiency of a 3-in-1 shampoo, then absolutely hire someone who can do it all.

To be clear: there are multi-talented people out there and this is not a dig on them!

(Have you tried New Wash? My HG hair product is basically a 3-in-1, and I will pass away on this hill. For New Wash.)

But that approach just doesn’t work for me — at least not at this point in my business.

One more moment for New Wash: it's expensive, and the New Wash of brand/website designer/ developer hybrids will be, too — you’re not gonna save that much money or time to get it done REALLY well.

My genius is branding — not website design, not website development, and definitely not project managing website design and development through contractors.

Even though my developers are AMAZING and I love referring them out to anyone who asks (hi!!)

So, I quietly stopped offering websites earlier this year, because I can do whatever I want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fortunately, there are many website designers/developers on my roster who feel similarly, and prefer to work in their own specialties.

(Example: do you have a Wordpress site? 90% of the time you'll need to hire someone -completely different- to get a GOOD result than someone who can give you a good result on Squarespace or Shopify or Webflow.)

When you hire me for your brand, I’ll match you with an ideal-fit developer from the beginning so you can get on their schedule ASAP and jump right into their process as soon as we’ve completed your brand.

(Btw, my recommended order of operations, if you're investing in any of these services: brand strategy —> brand design / copywriting (at the same time or interchangeable) —> photography —> website)

So if you want a brand specialist to build your perfect brand and a website specialist to build your perfect website from that brand...

(and developers love my brands fwiw)

You’ll find the extra time to vet the right people instead of the person/agency who can do both.

Will I offer websites again in the future? Sure, if you can pay me at least $15k to the RIGHT two other people to do it properly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you already know I’m the right fit for you and your brand but have been hoping to find someone who can do your website too, let’s talk — and I’ll recommend a developer for you to check out, too ;)

P.S. Honorable mention to Katherine De Vos Devine for perfectly extending the New Wash metaphor:
